In-Center Hemodialysis (ICH) CAHPS® Survey Program
Overview
The objective of the ICH-CAHPS® Survey is to help dialysis facilities understand and improve the level of
care their patients experience, and to measure how patient perceptions change over time.
The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) In-Center Hemodialysis
Survey is designed to measure the experiences of people receiving in-center hemodialysis (ICH) care from
Medicare-certified dialysis facilities. Beginning in calendar year 2014, the In-Center Hemodialysis CAHPS®
Survey, also referred to as the ICH CAHPS® Survey, will be conducted for ICH facilities by survey vendors
approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
The End Stage Renal Disease Prospective Payment System Final Rule for CY2014 requires each in-center hemodialysis facility serving
more than 30 patients in 2013 to contract with a CMS-approved survey vendor to administer the ICH CAHPS Survey on its behalf.

Reporting
Basic report deliverables include a 3-4 page summary report, presenting results in a user-friendly manner with charts and tabular data,
and a full set of crosstabulations showing detailed results to each individual question by patient demographics. Sample deliverables
available on request. DataStar provides reports with global ratings for physicians, staff, facility and overall ratings, as well as composite
scores for sub-sections of the ICH-CAHPS® survey. These summary scores are calculated in accordance with appropriate CMS
guidelines.
Optionally, DataStar can generate custom-built reports to meet the individual needs of our clients. Where appropriate, data analysis and
reporting may compare individual facilities to other facilities within the network, based on region, business unit or other groupings.
