CAHPS® Hospice Survey Program
Overview
The objective of the CAHPS® Hospice Survey is to help hospice providers understand and improve the level
of care their patients and primary caregivers experience, and to measure how perceptions change over
time.
The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) Hospice Survey was designed
to measure and assess the experiences of patients who died while receiving hospice care, as well as the
experiences of their informal primary caregivers. The CAHPS® Hospice Survey is being administered nationally
beginning in 2015.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires all Medicare-certified hospices with at least 50 eligible decedents per year
to participate in the CAHPS® Hospice Survey.
DataStar's CAHPS® Experience
DataStar is a CMS-approved vendor for the CAHPS® Hospice Survey as well as the In-Center Hemodialysis (ICH) CAHPS® program.
Our direct experience with CAHPS® surveys includes administration to patients in over 2,000 dialysis facilities since 2012, and working
with Fresenius Medical Care (FMC-NA) on patient satisfaction surveys since 1998. DataStar is also a preferred vendor of the National
Renal Administrators Association (NRAA) and the Renal Services Exchange (RSE).

Reporting
Basic report deliverables include a 3-4 page summary report, presenting results in a user-friendly manner with charts and tabular data,
and a full set of crosstabulations showing detailed results to each individual question by patient demographics. Sample deliverables are
available on request. DataStar provides reports with global ratings for physicians, staff, facility and overall ratings, as well as composite
scores for sub-sections of the CAHPS® Hospice survey. These summary scores are calculated in accordance with appropriate CMS
guidelines.
Optionally, DataStar can generate custom-built reports to meet the individual needs of our clients. Where appropriate, data analysis and
reporting may compare individual providers to other facilities within the network, based on region, business unit or other groupings.
